A showcase of vocal power at Festival Supermall

MANILA, Philippines - Filipinos are known as good singers and performers. From Lea Salonga to Charice and apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas, Pinoy music acts have been making waves here and abroad. Festival Supermall in Alabang, Muntinlupa City celebrates the talent of the Filipino as it holds the third season of the Awiting Kay GLEEng Choral Competition on Aug. 11, 2 p.m. at the second level of Carousel Court. Vocal groups will battle it out to interpret the theme “A Celebration of Original Pilipino Music.”

The competition is open to all non-professional vocal groups comprised of eight to 16 members of either presently-enrolled students or registered residents of a barangay. Application forms available at the Festival Supermall customer service counter at the second level or through the Festival Supermall Facebook page must be submitted on or before 9 p.m. of Aug. 5 via fax  at tel. no. 850-3516, or  via  e-mail  at richard.macatangay@festivalsupermall.com or  marketing@festivalsupermall.com. A letter of endorsement addressed to Festival Supermall Marketing Department from the school  head,  principal  or  dean  (for  schools),  and  barangay  captain  (for  barangays) indicating the names, ages and levels (for schools) of the participants must be submitted upon registration together with the official entry form. 

In keeping with the theme, choirs are required to perform an all-Filipino repertoire consisting of either a single song or a medley/mash-up of Filipino written songs in any dialect from any genre (pop, contemporary, traditional, indigenous, etc.). Groups will also be required to submit three copies of music sheets for their chosen songs. Maximum time for each group’s performance is 10 minutes.

The grand champion will receive P20,000, plus an additional cash prize of P5,000 for the school or barangay and a trophy. The first runner-up will get P10,000 and a trophy, while the second runner-up will get to take home P5,000 and a trophy. There will also be a special prize of P2,000 worth of gift certificates.
