Raincheck: 6 films to watch when you're stuck at home

Dexter Rodrigo Matilla - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Why is it that the movies we watch at home when we can’t go out because of the rain, no matter the film’s quality, always seems to get stuck in our head? Admit it or not, there’s something romantic about watching a movie in the safety of one’s room while the world outside gets its regular bath.

But whether you’re alone or with someone, these films are sure to have you coming out of mini-hibernation feeling inspired or, honestly, probably confused.

3 Idiots
What: 3 engineering students who become friends. The rebel character helps his friends find their calling as he searches for his own place in the world.
Why: Because you’re likely to find inspiration from one of the three friends.

Attack The Block
What: Teenagers battle aliens in London.
Why: It’s a coming of age film and it’s much better than the Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn starrer “The Watch”

Bodyguards and Assassins
What: Revolutionary leader Sun Yat Sen is coming to Hong Kong to discuss plans with fellow activists about overthrowing the Qing Dynasty.
Why: It’s an interesting periodical piece that depicts how each person’s actions can change the course of history. And there are great action sequences.

Black Swan
What: Two competing ballerinas who are both very ambitious.
Why: To find out if you’re crazy.

Midnight In Paris
What: A screenwriter who seems to be lost in both space and time.
Why: If you’ve always dreamt of having a conversation with Dali, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Degas.

Donnie Darko
What: A probably schizophrenic high-school teen who talks to and is influenced by some sort of a rabbit being.
Why: So you can talk theories with others who have a hard time figuring the film out.
