Copa semis begins on Solar Sports

MANILA, Philippines - The Copa Libertadores semifinals starts with a crucial match-up between Santa Fe and Olimpia tomorrow, July 3, at 8:50 a.m. followed by a battle between Atletico MG and Newell’s Old Boys the following day.

In the semifinals, each team will play its opponent twice in a home-and-home series. The football squad that has more points after both games will advance to the finals of the tournament.

In the first game, the red-hot Santa Fe — who trounced Real Garcilaso in the quarterfinals — will face an Olimpia team that has struggled as of late.

Santa Fe has proven that they can score on any team in the tournament, averaging close to three goals per game. Meanwhile, Olimpia, is a team that relies on defense and its hard-nose style of play, which will come in handy against a high-scoring team like Santa Fe.

In the following game, top-seeded Atletico MG will take on Newell’s Old Boys.

After an excruciating battle with Tijuana during the quarterfinals, Atletico looks to re-group and improve the game plan as it faces a tougher challenge in Newell’s Old Boys, a team that has a reputation of eliminating higher-seeded opponents.

The game between Atletico MG and Newell’s Old Boys is on July 4.
