Sheng’s dream is coming true

Remy Umerez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - It all began with the music videos of Gigil, Panaginip and Walang Natira where the participation of Sheng Belmonte caught the attention of Viva boss Vic del Rosario. And August of last year, she found the realization of her musical dream when she became a part of Viva/Vicor family.

Walang Natira speaks of people’s quest for greener pastures abroad. Sheng could easily identify herself with the song as she used to travel abroad with her band. Later on, she discovered that great opportunities can be found here.

The first stop is becoming a part of ABS-CBN’s Pinoy Dream Academy. A meeting with composer/arranger Jonathan Ong came next. Credit Jonathan who pushed for her to have a singing part in Walang Natira.

Today, Sheng is doing her share in uplifting OPM in her debut album titled Single. Single which she co-wrote is the story of a girl feeling so alone who saw her crush in a bar who happens to be the DJ.

With the unifying theme of being alone, Sheng says Single is more mature than her first album with a previous record label. She adds that the element of fun is still present. With a club as the setting, the musical arrangement is lively and danceable.

Cuts like Akala Mo and Ulan are meant for the broken-hearted while Kapalit talks about a lover who always has to leave.

Sheng remains focused on the universal theme of love in Sabik, Sana and Muli. Despite the serious theme, listeners are bound to enjoy the light and breezy sound of the songs. Minus ones are also included.

Ultimately, Sheng wants to inspire people. She learned that the key to reaching your goal is “to stay determined, be patient and remain grounded.”

She also adds, “Work harder than what you think is hard work already.”
