Pacquiao falls in Forbes list of 'most powerful' celebs

MANILA, Philippines - Despite two consecutive losses including a devastating knockout, Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao is still among the 100 "most powerful" celebrities listed by Forbes Magazine.

However, Pacquiao fell to the 78th spot on the Forbes 2013 list released on Wednesday (Thursday, Manila time). He was ranked 33rd in 2012.

Despite his ranking's decline, the boxing icon still bested undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr., who clinched the 88th place. 

The list, which was posted on Forbes.com, is "based on entertainment-related earnings plus media visibility (exposure in print, television, radio and online)," the site said.

"To compile our earnings numbers, we talk to industry insiders, including agents, lawyers, producers and other experts, to come up with an estimate for what each celebrity earned between June 1, 2012, and June 1, 2013," the website said.

Based on the site's data, Pacquiao's estimated earnings as of June 2013 is pegged at $34 million. He is currently the 14th highest paid athlete in the world.

The eight-division champion is ranked 57th in terms of money, 82nd in television/radio, 81st in press, 56th in social, and 60th in marketability.

Forbes said Pacquiao's fight against Juan Manuel Marquez last December attracted 1.1 million pay-per-view buys and netted him an estimated $26 million, including his income from the telecast in the Philippines.

Pacquiao's endorsement deal with Hewlett-Packard expired last year, but his partners still include: Nike, Monster Energy, Hennessy, Wonderful Pistachios, San Miguel Beer and several others in Philippines, according to Forbes.

The 34-year-old boxer-turned-politician also had a better "celebrity power" standing than novelist J.K. Rowling, actors Alec Baldwin and Neil Patrick Harris, movie star Sandra Bullock, director and producer Joss Whedon, and model Miranda Kerr.

Celebrity talk show host Oprah Winfrey regained the No. 1 spot in the 2013 Forbes list.
