Chippendales: Ready to be teased?

Yugel Losorata - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Every liberated Filipina who has seen the male stripper movie Magic Mike expects the same high level of naughty fun come the anticipated Chippendales live show.

The internationally-recognized touring dance troupe is in the country for a Philippine tour dubbed as The Ultimate Girls Night Out scheduled tomorrow, June 13, and on June 14 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World Manila.

“Our show is a ‘Disneyland for women’ and we’re going to bring to life their fantasies,” stated Kevin Cornell who is arguably the most vocal among the members.

The world-renowned all-male act is thrilled being back in Manila just a few years since its previous visit. Kris Davis recalled having “a great time in Manila” and looks forward to seeing once again some Asian women in this side of the globe.

The long-time Chippendales lad mused, “We want room keys thrown on stage!”

Completing the erotic dancing group known for its “distinctive upper body costume of a bow tie and shirt cuffs” are dance captain Bryan Cheatham, Matt Marshall, Michael Lattino, Dylan Ruth, Josh Dubois and Vanja Kapetanoviic.

Cheatham managed to slip in some positive remark for lesbian singer Charice who recently outed herself to popular nod. “Charice, you are amazing, just the way you are.”

Cornell, who has been part of Chippendales for the past 12 years, described his work as “the best job in the world.” He noted, “Being able to travel with my friends is the amazing part of this job.”

The gang’s newest acquisition, Kapetanoviic, studied acting and played in a band before getting his biggest gig which he defined as a “mixture of everything I like.”

The Chippendales appeared before the press last Monday afternoon at the Garden Room 3 of Marriott Hotel.

Meanwhile, Resorts World Manila also catered to conservative, traditional dances a few months ago when it showcased at Newport Mall’s atrium the culminating event of Sayaw Pinoy 2013 which staged close to 50 performance all over the Philippines.

The culturally conscious dance groups which participated in during the activity held last March include, among others, the Halili-Cruz Ballet Company, Kislap Sining, Lahing Batangan and the Kalinangan Dance Troupe.

Sayaw Pinoy is said to have gathered “more than 85 established and emerging dance groups” that showcased different varieties of dances like folkdance, classical ballet, modern jazz and ballroom.

Emelita Almosara, executive director of National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), was on hand for the occasion, observing, “Everything is just perfect for me.”
