MANILA, Philippines - On the eve of the elections, GMA News and Public Affairs leaves voters with food for thought: Elect public officials with integrity, those who can help send all our children through school and stop them from going hungry.
GMA sends this message by presenting the powerful Reel Time documentary Salat, which was first aired on its news channel GMA News TV.
Salat tells the story of a 10-year-old girl named Mary Rose — who falls asleep in class from hunger and is forced to borrow soap from the neighbors out of poverty. So distinct was the documentary that the world’s oldest and most prestigious award for electronic media, the University of Georgia’s George Foster Peabody Awards, declared Salat as one of its few chosen recipients for this year.
Salat reaches a wider audience with its airing on GMA 7 tonight at 10.
