MANILA, Philippines - Jun Robles Lana’s Bwakaw won several awards last April 27 from the Entertainment Press Society and the Pampelikulang Samahan ng mga Dalubguro.
Enpress’ Golden Screen Awards was held at the Teatrino in Greenhillls while Gawad Pasado at the National Teachers College in Manila.
Bwakaw won Best Motion Picture Drama, Best Director, Story and Screenplay for Jun Robles Lana, Best Cinematograpy for Carlo Mendoza and Best Actor for Eddie Garcia (tie with Alfred Vargas for Supremo).
Gawad Pasado bestowed Bwakaw the following honors: Pinakapasadong Pelikula (the other two winners were Brillante Mendoza’s Thy Womb and Mark Meily’s El Presidente), Pinakapasadong Aktor for Eddie Garcia (tie with Jorge Estregan and Bembol Roco), Pinakapasadong Katuwang na Aktor for Soxie Topacio (tie with Cesar Montano) Pinakapasadong Dulang Pampelikula for Lana and Pinakapasadong Editing for Lawrence Ang.
Bwakaw won the Audience, Netpac and Best Actor Award at last year’s Director’s Showcase of the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival. It was the country’s entry to the Oscar’s Best Foreign Language Film Category.
It was screened at festivals in Toronto and New York. It was given special mention in Tokyo and won the Grand Jury, Emile Guimet and Prix du Jury Lyceens from the Vesoul Asian Film Festival in France.
Garcia garnered Best Actor Awards from the Asia Pacific Film Festival in Macau and from the Asian Film Awards (both the People’s Choice and Jury Award) held in Hong Kong.
Bwakaw was produced by Cinemalaya, Octobertrain Films with Perci Intalan as executive producer and Tony Tuviera’s APT Entertainment.
