MANILA, Philippines - She is a rising star in the pageant circuit, having won second runner-up in last year’s Binibining Pilipinas contest. This year, Ali Forbes (photo) makes her mark in a different genre as she stages her first solo concert.
Billed Invincible, the advocacy concert is set for March 26 at the Teatrino Promenade in Greenhills, San Juan City. The show’s title is a tribute to how strong a woman she is — after facing the challenges of the pageant and coming out a winner, she is determined to prove that she can be a top-notch singer as well. It’s a little-known fact that Ali actually worked as a lounge singer in various five-star hotels before joining the Bb. Pilipinas pageant last year.
She is nervous about mounting the first solo concert, but is ready to face the music, so to speak. For Invincible, Ali will do songs from different genres, but at the same time will perform a repertoire of standards and classics. Within the show there will also be a special segment featuring inspirational songs and songs dedicated to the environment (including favorites like Paraiso, Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Colors of the Wind) since Ali will be appointed as an ambassadress for the Clean Air campaign. She is an avid believer that everyone deserves to breathe clean air and will continue to champion this cause to lessen the dangerous level of pollution in the metropolis.
Ali will be backed up by her special guests, Janine Tugonon and Bb. Pilipinas-Tourism Katrina Dimaranan, The Filipino Tenors and the Jazz Clean Air band.
Invincible is produced by Kaisa sa Kalikasan at Kalusugan and the Gat Andres Bonifacio Music and Policy Research Foundation, Inc. Sponsors are Life Oil and the Philippine Society for Stem Cell Medicine with Manila Bulletin as media partner. Ali’s gowns will be by Poi Subijano.
Tickets are available at the Music Museum box-office and Ticketworld (with tel. no. 891-9999).
