Saklolo revisits landmark human trafficking case

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - ABS-CBN reporters Maan Macapagal and Dominic Almelor recount a landmark legal case in 2008 that marked the first time a Filipino was convicted of human trafficking today at 4:45 p.m. in Pinoy True Stories: Saklolo.

Find out how then 15-year-old Rubylyn Acebo was duped into accepting a job offer from a certain “Dolores.” Desperate for money, Rubylyn took the waiting job despite all doubts and traveled to Puerto Galera along with Dolores and other minors.

Dolores turned out to be an illegal recruiter and with the help of non-government organization Visayan Forum, Rubylyn filed a case against her.

On March 10, 2008, Dolores was found guilty of violating Republic Act 9208 or the Anti-Human Trafficking Law. The case was considered groundbreaking because Dolores was the first condemned human trafficker in the Philippines.
