Glaiza happy with Pony

MANILA, Philippines - “I think because it’s relevant to who I really am — playful, flamboyant, optimistic, passionate, zealous,” says Glaiza de Castro of why she thinks Pony Shoes handpicked her to be its brand ambassador.

Best known for being an athletic brand worldwide, Pony expands its reach and now becomes identified for its eye-catching streetwise footwear. With the brand’s thrust in giving merit to uniqueness and individualism, it has supported local musicians like Bamboo, Kitchie Nadal and Barbie Almalbis, to name a few.

It was by chance that Glaiza entered into the world of showbiz. She was discovered by a talent agent while watching a shooting for a film.  She has done teleseryes and movies, one of which was Rakenrol, directed by Quark Henares and co-written with Diego Castillo about the misadventures of two friends who live and breathe the underground music scene. “I didn’t feel like I was working because we had so much fun. It‘s always been my dream to work with Quark and Diego because I‘m a fan of their work,” admits Glaiza when asked about her experience while working on the movie. The independent film is close to her heart since music is one of her passions. “I am more into singing than acting. If I wasn’t in showbiz, I’d probably be doing music production,” says Glaiza.

Speaking of singing, she is fronting Galura and Kagawasan. She looks up to local bands like Up Dharma Down, Drip, Radioactive Sago Project, and would love to collaborate with musicians like Ely Buendia, Rico Blanco and Dong Abay.

Glaiza is busy with Temptation of Wife and Party Pilipinas.

“The first time that you’d get to talk to Glaiza, you can already feel that there’s something unique about her, and that she’s oozing with passion and drive,” says Pony marketing manager Donna Santos. “There’s depth and substance. What we like most about her is the spunk that she has that’s perfect for Pony,” admits Donna.

Pony is also celebrating its 40th anniversary. With that, Santos mentions exciting collaborations from New York-based accessories designers Dee & Ricky, and photographer Ricky Powell. “We will also be re-issuing the iconic styles of Pony starting from 1972 to 1980s, where Pony was at its height,” she reveals.
