Swedish House Mafia makes Phl debut on Jan. 16 at MOA Arena

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Swedish House Mafia, the biggest headline DJ act in the world, will make its local debut during a live concert on Jan. 16 at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena in Pasay City.

Ovation Productions has confirmed the inclusion of Manila as part of the Southeast Asian leg of the Swedish electronic dance supergroup’s ongoing world tour, its final performance together before going on a break.

The one-night-only musical event, dubbed One Last Tour, will unofficially kick off the 2013 concert season featuring foreign acts and representing what is expected to be another stellar line-up of top international musicians and entertainers.

It brings for the first time to the local concert scene an exceptional group of new and young musical talents who have captured the imagination of fans with its fresh, innovative act during the short period of time it has been on the world stage.

Since it was formed in 2008 in Stockholm, Sweden by house disc jockeys and producers Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrasso, Swedish House Mafia has taken the world by storm with its powerful sledgehammer beats and spectacular laser and pyrotechnics production

The electronic dance trio launched its initial release in 2007 titled Get Dumb, which was produced with Laidback Luke, followed two years later by Leave The World Behind, with Laidback Luke and Deborah Cox.

On Nov. 26, 2010, its official debut single under the name Swedish House Mafia, One (Your Name), was released on Beatport and was met with international success after charting at No. 7 in the UK Singles Chart.

It was followed by Miami 2 Ibiza (feat. Tina Tempah), which landed at No. 4 in the UK Chart in 2010.

Both tracks were taken from the album Until One, a compilation of productions and remixes from Swedish House Mafia’s works as a group and as individual artists. The album itself has achieved a BPI Gold Sales Award in the UK.

Other chart-topping singles that followed were 2011’s Save The World and Antidote, and 2012’s Greyhound and Don’t You Worry Child.

On Oct. 22, 2012, the supergroup released its second compilation Until Now, which forms the official soundtrack to its ongoing and final headlining tour.

In the course of its successful musical career spanning four years, Swedish House Mafia has been tagged “the face of mainstream progressive house music” and ranked No. 10 on the DJ Magazine Top 100 DJ Poll 2011.

On June 24, 2012, Swedish House Mafia jolted its fans when it announced on its website that the final leg of its 2012 world tour would be its last before going on a hiatus. The tour kicked off last November in Stockholm and is due to end in March.

The group will also make a final appearance at the Ultra Music Festival, an annual electronic musicfest, in Miami, Florida, with an opening and closing act slated on March 15 and 24, respectively.
