The search for Global Pinoy Singing Idol

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Filipino Channel (TFC) recently launched its very first global talent search throughout Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Europe, Guam, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Middle East and the United States. Through the search, TFC will bring out the best Filipino aspiring performers around the world who are waiting to be discovered and recognized.

Representing New Zealand’s Filipino community is Jayvee Poblete Lagunda after she won the competition held in Auckland last September. It qualified her to compete with the Fil-Australian winners from Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Darwin last October at the Dallas Brooke Centre. Jayvee and her mother flew to Melbourne as part of her prize.

Host of that night was Randy Santiago, who praised Jayvee’s first performance, saying, “You sing so well, you have a beautiful voice, yung control ng boses, ang ganda! I’m very sure you will make it big time!”

Jayvee was asked who her inspirations are, and she named Sharon Cuneta, Lani Misalucha and Gary Valenciano as her favorites.

Jayvee’s face-off song was Alicia Keys’ If I Ain’t Got You. It made her place second runner-up and win the sponsorship of DZMM Radyo Sais Treinta to be one of the finalists of Global Pinoy Singing Idol, the grand finals of which is happening this month in Manila. As finalist, she also received a cash prize of $1,000, free roundtrip tickets to Manila and San Francisco in the US, accommodations for five days and per diem, and guestings in several TV shows to promote the grand finals of Global Pinoy Singing Idol in Manila. At stake at the Manila competition are the $2,500 grand prize, a recording album for digital release under Star Records and a slot in the Philippine edition of The Voice.
