MANILA, Philippines - There’s more to Bea Binene (photo) than being a teen star and singer. She exemplifies what girl empowerment is.
Bea, who recently released her debut album, was tapped to serve as advocate for I Am A Girl movement of Plan Foundation which vows to fight human trafficking of young girls and help out-of-school girls attend school.
In an interview, she emphasized, “Girls must be protected and respected.â€
She also expressed her excitement in participating in the foundation’s activities that include medical mission and marathon biking. This season, Bea is expected to join a Kapuso Foundation outreach program with news anchor Mel Tiangco at the helm.
Bea’s involvement with charitable institutions began last year. Last December, she put up a charity initiative she simply calls Bea Binene Cares. She was also chosen by the Haribon Foundation to act as its junior child ambassador.
Being a young star, Bea makes good use of the power of fame by encouraging girls her age to do positive things and not become juvenile delinquents. “I can spread the word in my own little way,†she said.
The 15-year old GMA Artist Center talent has other social concerns that even solidify more her image as a youth model. She speaks up about her stand against illegal logging and nature conservation.
Her album from Polyeast and Galaxy Records was a hit, with her singing Jamie Rivera’s Hey It’s Me and Manilyn Reynes’ Sayang Na Sayang.
Bea appeared in Alice Bungisngis and Luna Blanca. Fans can watch her in Cielo de Angelina weekdays before Eat, Bulaga!
