Matteo, Drew shine in Maui

MANILA, Philippines - Celebrity triathletes Matteo Guidicelli and Drew Arellano, together with the other members of the Vaseline Men XTERRA Philippine Team, showcased Filipino athletic prowess in the recently-concluded XTERRA Off-road Triathlon Global Championship in Maui, Hawaii.

The two heartthrobs and TV hosts proved that they are also included in the Philippines’ roster of triathletes after finishing the race and landing in the top tier of their respective age groups. Matteo secured the 16th place in the 20-24 age group, while Drew earned the 43rd spot in the 30-34 age group.

Deemed as one of the most difficult triathlon series in the world, XTERRA Off-road Triathlon features a combination of a 1.5-km. rough water swim, a 30.4-km. mountain bike track and a 9.5-km. trail run through the fields, forests and beach of Maui. It is also the world’s premier and biggest off-road triathlon series with as many as 740 participants, all of whom are elite and professional triathletes who came from over 34 different countries.

Joining Matteo and Drew in showing to the world that Filipinos can make it big in the international triathlon circuit were the three other members of the Vaseline Men XTERRA Philippine Team — coach Noy Jopson, corporate training manager Redg Plopinio and Second Wind Running Store owner Hector Yuzon. The three triathletes also ended the race with remarkable time and also had top ranks in their age groups.
