Josh Brolin narrates Mankind
MANILA, Philippines - Mankind The Story of All of Us, the biggest TV event of the year, is slated to premiere on Nov. 14 at 9 p.m. on History.
The story of the brutal fight for humanity will be told as the channel premieres a production that was two years in the making. Acclaimed actor and Oscar nominee Josh Brolin (Milk, No Country for Old Men, W. and the upcoming Gangster Squad) will narrate the English language version while Datuk Jalaludin Hassan, a Malaysian actor and host of the Malaysian version of Who Wants To Be a Millionaire? will be the voice-over for the Malay language version.
“This ambitious TV series captures the complex nature of man. How we as a species succeeded, shaped the world and thrived against all odds,” says Brolin. “History has always been committed to developing superb productions, combined with compelling educational programs that strive to inspire people to learn more about our world.”
Hassan is a veteran actor, renowned for his many movie and drama roles in the Malaysian film industry. He is well-known for his dramatic hosting in Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, Astana Idaman and Ringgit Kasorga, among others.
“It’s an honor for me to narrate the Bahasa Malaysia version of this monumental series. Mankind tells the story of our evolution and ultimate success,” says Hassan.
Over two years in the making, the programming event is one of the most in-depth TV series ever produced by History. Mankind will have the first global series premiere in the history of the network, as well as a worldwide educational initiative.
“Mankind The Story of All of Us is truly a remarkable undertaking by History. The series will redefine history as we know it for people throughout the world — how it’s told, how it’s watched, and how it’s experienced — and by having renowned actors like Hassan to narrate this in Bahasa Malaysia, we can make the amazing series accessible to all Malaysians,” said Louis Boswell, general manager, AETN All Asia Networks.
Mankind will be the first TV series in a generation to look at the history of the human race through the ages, but in a way that will be highly-ambitious with the scale of its cinematic vision. Jaw-dropping CGI technology and reconstructions of the most critical events in human history brought to life will leave viewers spell-bound to the compelling story of our race.
In every episode, the path of mankind’s progress will be unlocked through a set of mysterious keys. These will range from the first tools to the construction of the pyramids, to the birth of agriculture and the revolutions in military technology; and through the Vikings landing in America and discovery of new worlds, culminating in the industrial revolution and the making of the modern world.
By integrating the different sciences, Mankind will set the standard for “big history” and how it will be experienced.
