MANILA, Philippines - The final leg of Nature’s Trail Discovery Run will be held on Nov. 25 at Daranak Falls in Tanay, Rizal. Close to 500 runners are expected to participate which will determine the Top 100 Trail Runners of the Year 2012 and Trail Runner of the Year by the Philippines Trail Runners Association (PTRA). Pimco Sporting Events is giving credit to the partner LGU of Tanay headed by mayor Lito Tanjuatco for giving all the support needed for the holding of the race event. Since the introduction of trail running in Tanay, more people in Metro Manila and the foreign nationals who participated in the race events have been visiting Tanay after the races.
The final leg will be the first trail running race event in the world to include cave in its race route. This is the famous Calinawan Cave in Tanay which has been formed for millions of years as evidenced by the presence of giant stalactite/stalagmite that can be found inside. It will also feature the 346 steps Grotto of our Lady of Rawang, the Blessed Virgin Mary statue nestled on top of the hill some 200 meters above sea level overlooking Daranak River. It’s one of the most challenging race routes which is about 45-degree vertical climb to the Grotto.
Trail runners have noted that what makes the trilogy series different is that every leg offers a different experience because the organizers made sure that each leg will have different venue and race routes. Runners are likened to explorers as they discover in every leg the beautiful mountain trails of Tanay. Distances for the final leg will continue to cover three categories — the 5k, 10k and 21k distances. The 5k and 10k are reserved for Filipino runners but accept foreign runners as guest runners which allow foreign nationals to take part in the race but will not be eligible for the cash prizes and podium finish. The 21k is open for both Filipino and foreign national, however, the Top 3 Filipino finishers are assured a podium finish together with the winners of the race where foreign nationals have edged over local runners. Participants will have fun, too, looking for instant gifts and prizes along the race routes placed by organizers coming from sponsors like trail running shoes and many more.
