The villains of Bond

MANILA, Philippines - Bond, James Bond — we know the man, we know his styles. He likes it shaken not stirred. He wears the finest suits, drives luxurious cars and has had affairs with sexy, gorgeous women. To top it all, he has the gadgets any spy would be envious about. But what is Mr. Bond without his villains? Since the first Bond film in 1962, it’s about time to roll the red carpet to the memorable villains of 007.

Ernst Stavro Blofeld. Appearing in more than three Bond films, Blofeld is well-known for owning a white cat. He is a true genius with the evil motive of world domination. He is considered as Bond’s No. 1 enemy. He finally sees his end when Bond drops him in a tall chimney in For Your Eyes Only.

Dr. Julius No. The first villain in the Bond film series, Dr. Julius No is a brilliant scientist. His obsession for science leads him to an accident, causing him his hands, which are replaced with metal ones. He tries to disrupt a rocket launch but Bond stops him just in time. He gets boiled to death.

Auric Goldfinger. A rich businessman, Goldfinger owns a lot of properties and a huge company. However, behind all that is a dangerous man. He smuggles gold and will definitely kill anyone who gets in the way. His life ends when he struggles with Bond on the plane.

Oddjob (Goldfinger). Yes, he is just Mr. Goldfinger’s bodyguard, but including him in this list is a must. He is famous for his amazing weapon — his steel-rimmed hat. A truly brave and loyal henchman, Oddjob will do anything for Goldfinger. He dies of electrocution when he tries to retrieve his precious hat.

Jaws (The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker). Appearing twice in the Bond film series, Jaws is a truly prized henchman, known for his giant size and deadly teeth. Bond constantly faces a difficult time whenever he fights with this unbelievable villain. However, in Jaws’ appearance in Moonraker, an unexpected twist happens — he sides with Bond.

Dr. Kananga/Mr. Big (Live and Let Die). He’s a leader of various gangs and plans to distribute heroin for free. His cover: A rich businessman and a dictator of an island. He has Solitaire, a beautiful lady who’s an accurate tarot card reader. But Bond’s charm never fails, so later in the film he wins over Solitaire. Poor Dr. Kanaga, he explodes after Bond forces him to swallow a pellet of compressed air.

Francisco Scaramanga (The Man with The Golden Gun). Literally owning a golden gun, Scaramanga earns millions from being a professional assassin. All dealings are done by his personal assistant/sidekick Nick Nack. Scaramanga challenges Bond to a duel, which ultimately, ends his life.

Elliot Carver (Tomorrow Never Dies). He is the owner and the genius man behind The Carver Media Group Network. His plan: To start a war to get high ratings for his network. As sick as it may seem, this just shows how much media affects people. Thanks to our hero, Agent 007, Carver is crushed to death.

Le Chiffre (Casino Royale). He merges with other terrorists but loses the money after a failed mission, so now the others are after him. Hoping to win the money back, he uses gambling. Bond joins in to make sure that he doesn’t win. In the end, Le Chiffre is killed by one of the terrorists.

Elektra King (The World is Not Enough). Being a kidnap victim, it’s hard to believe she is also a villain. After finding out that her father refused to pay the ransom for her freedom, Elektra decides to just conspire with her kidnapper, who later becomes her lover. Out for revenge, she is determined to destroy the one person, M (Bond’s boss), who convinced her father not to pay ransom. Elektra King dies when Bond unexpectedly shoots her and says, “I never miss.”

Rosa Klebb (From Russia With Love). Her mission is to get a device and kill Bond. It is said that her strong appearance and some of her lines in the film actually suggest that she is a lesbian. She is, instead, shot by the lady she ordered to kill Bond.

Gustav Graves a.k.a. Tan-Sun Moon (Die Another Day). He is first seen as a Korean colonel who participates in diamond smuggling and selling of weapons. After surviving a deadly encounter with Bond, he totally changes his appearance into a rich, Caucasian businessman. Upon knowing his harmful plans and his true identity, Bond is once again out to get him, this time for good.

Max Zorin (A View to Kill). This man will do anything to be in the lead — even to kill people who are working for him. He is in the micro chip business. In order to be at the top, he plans to trigger an earthquake that will destroy other companies. Anyway, all his evil ways will get back at him in no time. He dies falling from the bridge.

Alec Travelyan (Goldeneye). Another villain to fake his death, Travelyan is a former secret service agent who worked with Bond. His new name is Janus and his plan is to steal a powerful device and use it for his own evil intentions. Luckily, our Agent Bond gets a hold of him and finally ends this villain’s life — for good.

Emilio Largo (Thunderball). He is known for owning a huge pool with sharks in it. Bond gets thrown into this pool but survives, of course. Largo’s plan is to steal nuclear weapons and make money from it. He is later killed by his mistress, Domino, who sides with Bond.
