Kylie plays a Muslim in Haram

MANILA, Philippines - Kylie Padilla’s entry to teleserye primetime block as a lead star seems to get extra attention for the kind of role she is taking on. That is, the role of a Muslim woman.

The TV series is titled Haram, an Arabic term that means sanctuary, though some sources take it to mean as sinful. Whatever it means, the fact that she’s portraying a Muslim means that the series has religious overtones, as our Muslim brothers and sisters will take a closer look at how she will play the role.

“I’ve seen her in The Good Daughter and how she has evolved into an actress. You can really see the effort that she wants to learn more,” said Dingdong Dantes who is her leading man in the upcoming TV series to be directed by Maryo J. delos Reyes.  

The plot revolves around the forbidden love between a Christian man (Dingdong) and a Muslim woman (Kylie), a concept of Suzette Doctolero who was the head writer for Amaya. An observer noted of the tandem, “May chemistry sila; beautiful si Kylie. She is tall and super flawless. Simple lang din manamit but she is sexy.” 

Kylie was last seen as Bea Guevarra in The Good Daughter. Her acting there is obviously a point to ponder why she has now been given a primetime project.

Interestingly, Kylie’s dad Robin Padilla is a Muslim himself which makes the task more exciting for her.

Kylie’s previous acting stints were in Elena M. Patron’s Blusang Itim (Jessa Gonzalez/Jessica); Dwarfina (Chloe Agustin) and Joaquin Bordado where she played Erenea in a series starred by her father. For her Joaquin Bordado performance, she was awarded co-Best New Female Personality in the 2008 PMPC Star Awards for Television.
