Patrol ng Pilipino examines Kasambahay Bill
MANILA, Philippines - The media heavily reported the physical abuse case of Bonita Baran last week after she claimed she suffered from different forms of maltreatment from her employers, including being forced to eat dead cockroaches, hit in the head and punched in the eye. Her employers also allegedly pressed hot iron on her face.
Tonight, ABS-CBN’s Patrol ng Pilipino will examine the proposed Kasambahay Bill that stands to protect the welfare and rights of over two million domestic workers in the country. The landmark Kasambahay Bill or House Bill 6144 was approved by the House of Representatives on the third and final reading last week in the heat of the news of Baran’s case, which was cited by the police as the worst case involving allegations of cruelty towards domestic workers in the country.
If passed into law, the Kasambahay Bill would mandate guidelines for protection and privileges of domestic workers. What acts of employers are considered unlawful under the bill?
Meanwhile, Jacque Manabat (photo) will probe the growing number of cases of kidnapped babies, one of which was caught on a CCTV footage. It showed a woman disguised as a pediatrician and abducted a newborn baby in a hospital. How do kidnappers choose their victims? What should mothers do to protect their children?
Patrol ng Pilipino airs after Bandila or watch it earlier on DZMM TeleRadyo (SkyCable Channel 26), 9:15 p.m.
