MANILA, Philippines - If you liked the experimental new sound of Rico Blanco in Galactik Fiestamatik, wait till you see it performed live. Tomorrow, Sept. 5, the mad scientist of sound will rock you out of this world as he performs tracks from his latest work at his album launch at Teatrino, Greenhills at 7:30 p.m.
Following its release last July, Galactik Fiestamatik quickly skyrocketed to the top of the charts, making Rico the first Pinoy to hit No. 1 on iTunes. And now, Rico is raring to turn Galactik Fiestamatik into a festive, three-dimensional experience via a live show.
Even back when he was composing Amats — the pivotal song which spawned four others in quick succession over the span of a few days — he was already envisioning a full production. Rico says, “Something about this direction — and a live show that will go with it — with tribal drums, costumes, set design… Na-excite ako.” Though Rico revealed that Amats was originally written for a band, he eventually chose to perform every single instrument on the album himself — synths, cow bell, pots and pans, etc. So it’s going to be really interesting to see how it will all play out in the live show.
Rico recently launched Galactik Fiestamatik on GMA 7’s Party Pilipinas, rocking the stage like never before. After his performance, Warner Music Philippines GM Flerry de Leon and sales and marketing manager Nico Bacani handed him a citation recognizing Rico as the first OPM artist to have an album at No. 1 (for nine consecutive days!) on iTunes Philippines. He was also presented with an award for his first solo album Your Universe turning five times platinum, with over 80,000 units sold.
