Because she has been doing mostly horror films, Lovi Poe has automatically been crowned Horror Princess (with Kris Aquino as the reigning Horror Queen), with Regal Films’ Guni-Guni (first directorial job of Tara Illenberger who used to be an editor at Roadrunner) as her latest spine-tingling outing.
She’s Lovi-lovely Horror Princess, isn’t she?
Here’s a brief encounter with Lovi who should make Christopher Lee (is he still around?) drop his fangs sans resistance:
How many horror trips have you taken so far?
“Guni-Guni (opening nationwide on Wednesday, Aug. 22) is my fifth horror film. I play a challenging role as Mylene. She’s a student of medicine who is haunted by her past. So many years ago, her identical Siamese twin was killed when doctors tried to separate them. Now she is haunted by her dead twin. Is it real or just an imagination? Is she really being haunted or is she going crazy? Abangan!”
What’s your most memorable horror role?
“My character Jasmine in last year’s Aswang. After Guni-Guni, the most anticipated is Tiktik, Aswang Chronicles where I play a pregnant wife hounded by a group of hungry aswangs. My first movie was horror, Shake, Rattle & Roll. We were a family haunted by a Christmas Tree.”
What was the first horror movie that you’ve seen?
“I think it was The Exorcist. I couldn’t sleep for weeks after watching it. The image of Linda Blair’s possessed Regan haunted me. I was six years old then. After that, I saw Frankenstein and the same thing happened. Sleepless in my bedroom!”
Favorite horror film?
“I love Shutter and The Eye, both Thai films. Also, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Omen (the original), The Others and Patayin Sa Sindak Si Barbara with Tita Susan (Roces) in the titular role.”
Favorite horror actors?
“Christopher Lee, Bela Lugosi and, even if she scared me sleepless, Linda Blair, hahahaha!”
Are you happy being a Horror Princess?
“Of course, it’s an honor! I would gladly take that title. At least may title ako kahit papano, hahahaha!”
When will you get the Horror Queen title from Kris Aquino?
“Huwag na. That’s for her. As I’ve said, mayroon na ako, eh! Hahahaha!”
Keeping our fingers crossed for Queneerich
So far, so good.
Funfare’s “beauty-watcher” Gerry Diaz is optimistic that our bet, Queneerich Rehman, will make it not only to the semi-finals but to the finals (Top 3?) — or, why not, win for the country our first Miss World crown.
Gerry noted that Queneerich (that’s how her name is spelled, one “e” and then two “e’s”) has made it as semi-finalist in the Beach Beauty and Top Model challenges, and as one of the Top Five finalists in the Talent Competition. She’s expected to score high in the Beach Beauty competition having won the Best in Swimsuit award in both the 2011 Bb. Pilipinas and the 2012 Miss World Philippines pageants.
“Quenee missed making the semifinals cut for the Miss World Sports competition but after the four challenges, my calculation of the candidates performances still has Quenee among the Top 10,” said Gerry. “Topping the leader board at this point is Miss Jamaica who made the semis of Beach Beauty and was a finalist in Talent, Top Model and Sports competitions. Tied for second spot are Australia and hot favorite China. Coming in next are the Philippines, Kazakhstan, Brazil and Mexico.”
Two more competitions remain – Beauty With A Purpose and the Multimedia Award.
Wanna help improve Queneerich’s chances? View, like and share her Facebook page and give your comments. You will see her going through the different activities of Miss World and the beautiful sites of China.
Watch the Miss World pageant on TV5 on Saturday, Aug. 18, starting at 5:30 p.m.
