BREAKING NEWS: Just when the alleged (but never confirmed) negotiations for a landmark merger between GMA 7 and TV5 are almost a done deal comes the (sad?) news that a setback has cropped up.
“It could void whatever negotiations have been done so far,” said the Funfare VDPA (Very Deep Penetration Agent) who requested anonymity.
These past months, according to reports it was only a matter of “how much” (to the tune of tens of billions) before GMA 7 and TV5 bosses sign the contract.
Last June during the TV5 launch in San Francisco and L.A., TV5 big boss Manny V. Pangilinan hinted that the deal was as good as canned. Announced in that event was TV5’s tie-up with Dish, the company that airs GMA shows worldwide. MVP even plugged GMA shows together with those of TV5’s.
There were even reports (also unconfirmed) that a big announcement would be made in November and the formal/official merger to be launched in January next year.
“And then, something happened recently,” said the VDPA. “It could not only delay the merger but totally cancel it.”
Keeping his fingers crossed, the VDPA said, “I still hope that the merger will be pushed through,” even as he refused to reveal what the “recent development” is.
