Have you ever experienced how it feels to let go of the steering wheel of a moving vehicle while you rev on the gas accelerator so that you intentionally lose traction on your back wheels and literally move sideways? This is what drifting is about and let me tell you that it’s an adrenaline-pumping experience that you must try out at least once in your life. I personally got to try out how to drift at King’s Car Control Clinic recently and it’s a kind of high that lasts and makes you keep coming back for more! If you’ve watched The Fast and the Furious films then the good news is you can live out your racer fantasies right here in Manila.
Last June 23 at the King’s Playground in Taguig, Drift King and Car Porn director Ian King set up the ultimate fun in the sun event for adrenaline junkies like me. The Drift Fest was a whole day affair that had a variety of booths for drift enthusiasts and gathered both novice and pro drifters together to show off their motorsport mad skills. Host Issa Litton explained the mechanics of the event and got the crowd just as revved up as the cars screeching on the track. Azkals Team Captain Ally Borromeo, Anton del Rosario, model/mentor Joey Mead-King and Ryan Agoncillo were among the celebrities in attendance. It was a spectacle of a show as the drivers sped inches away from one another billowing a smoking train that made the hot cement literally burn rubber beneath them as the crowd went wild with excitement. Judges for the Drift Fest were Kevin Tayao and Brent Co who awarded trophies to pro winners, champion Raymond Ronquillo, first runner-up Alvin Dayrit, second runner-up Boodie Dabasol and novice champion Jesus Romero Salas, first runner-up Radrich Albano and second runner-up Tin Tin David (the only female racer).
Drifting is definitely growing in Manila and Victoria Court is certainly responsible for the promotion of this extreme sport in the metropolis. If you want to experience a thrill of a lifetime and the exhilaration of what it feels like to go sideways then this is the kind of entertainment that’s a must try. Watch out for drift fest in October by going to the Facebook page of Kings Car Control Clinic and subscribe to Twitter by following @carpornracing and @hailtothe_king. See you at the next drift fest!
