I Do Bidoo Bidoo sure to start a new movie genre
MANILA, Philippines - Landmark Filipino films come far and between and with I Do Bidoo Bidoo: Heto NAPO Sila, the meaning of high-class and top-quality movies by the Filipino and for the Filipino is again redefined.
The first local movieoke of its kind, I Do Bidoo Bidoo is a heartwarming musical comedy that celebrates the music of the APO Hiking Society, whose hits summed up young people’s thoughts, dreams and aspirations in the ’70s and ’80s, and even those of today’s generation who embraced revivals of APO hits in recent years. Some of the signature songs from the APO catalogue that are featured in I Do Bidoo Bidoo are Mahirap Magmahal Sa Syota Ng Iba, Batang Bata Ka Pa, Awit Ng Barkada, Syotang Pa-Class and Pag-ibig but in versions previously unheard of to fit the context of the scenes where these are performed.
I Do Bidoo Bidoo tells the story of young lovers who are about to get married but are torn by their families’ differences. The cast includes Gary Valenciano (who returns to the big screen and dabbles in comedy years after he last did so), Ogie Alcasid (highlighted as a singer here); Zsa Zsa Padilla; Eugene Domingo in her first singing role; Sam Concepcion; Tippy Dos Santos; Sweet Plantado; Frenchie Dy; Neil Coleta; Jaime Fabregas; Kiray Celis; and Gerald Pesigan. It’s a refreshing and impressive casting combination that’s perfect for such a new movie genre.
I Do Bidoo Bidoo is a dream project of Unitel Productions big boss, Tony Gloria, who has produced several box-office hits including the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2003 Best Picture, Crying Ladies. Though many producers and film outfits have been trying for years to put together such a concept, it’s Gloria who’s able to bring it to life and how.
I Do Bidoo Bidoo is written and directed by Chris Martinez who used APO Hiking music to move the story forward and punctuate pivotal scenes with the same. He tells a familiar story using familiar songs but tweaks these to come up with an entirely unique feel-good film that will make its audience laugh and sing and fall in love.
I Do Bidoo Bidoo: Heto NAPO Sila is a Unitel Productions and Studio 5 co-production and set to release nationwide on Aug. 29.
