Amazing Spider-Man grosses P271M
MANILA, Philippines - Comic book hero Peter Parker (played by Andrew Garfield, photo with co-star Emma Stone) triumphantly returned to Philippine cinemas, re-igniting the Spider-Man film franchise with a 10-day nationwide gross of a staggering P271.54M for The Amazing Spider-Man. This was announced recently by Victor Cabrera, managing director of film distributor Columbia Pictures Industries, Inc.
Topping the local box-office for two weeks in a row, the Spider-Man reboot is now the second-highest grossi ng movie of the year, and on track to become one of the most successful titles of all-time.
In the US, the brand new Spider-Man spun itself a $65M opening weekend and $140M in its first six days at theaters, from July 3 to 8. Overseas, it added $129.1M, raising its international total to $201.6M and worldwide haul to $341.2M since it began rolling out a week earlier in some foreign markets.
In the Philippines, Amazing Spider-Man opened last June 29 with the biggest rollout ever in the industry: 530 cinemas, including 90 Digital 3D and four IMAX 3D screens. SM Mall of Asia registered the highest box-office receipts with P21.58M, followed by SM North EDSA with P16.81M, and Trinoma at P13.70M.
Other top-performing screens are SM Megamall (P10.08M), Glorietta 4 (P8.74M), SM Cebu (P7.36M), Greenbelt 3 (P6.32M), SM Southmall (P6.21M), Power Plant (P6.19M) and Eastwood (P6.05M).
Rounding out the Top 20 cinemas are Alabang Town Center (P5.92M), Gateway (P5.79M), SM Fairview (P5.64M), Newport (P5.34M), Robinsons Ermita (P4.97M), SM San Lazaro (P4.68M), Shangri-la (P4.49M), Market! Market! (P4.28M), Greenhills (P4.25M) and Robinsons Galleria (P4.02M).
