Curtain-raisers:
• After Precious Lara Quigaman shall have exchanged “I do’s” with Marco Alcaraz at a Christian wedding on Sunday, July 8, at Hacienda Isabella in Indang, Cavite, she will make an “important announcement” during the reception (same venue) that will surely only make their guests smile with approval. That was the reaction when Ruffa Gutierrez and Charlene Gonzalez broke the same “good news” at their own weddings years back, remember? (Clarification: Marco’s mom is Vilma, not Wilma, Alcaraz.)
• Many people, including members of Congress (The Upper House and The Lower House), have been clamoring for the government to bestow upon Dolphy the National Artist Award now that he’s still around so he can enjoy and appreciate it. Rules of giving the award don’t have to be skirted since it would take a long process. Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t Congress have the power to declare somebody or an institution a National Treasure like it did Armida “Tita Midz” Siguion-Reyna’s iconic Aawitan Kita years ago? There’s no stumbling block or any legal impediment for Congress to expedite the process. Why doesn’t Sen. Manny Villar, the Dolphy champion, initiate it?
• Health tip from my friend Dr. Welson Yap who got the info from Japanese scientific research: Fully-ripe banana with dark patches on yellow skin produces a substance called TNF (Tumor Necrosis Factor) which has the ability to combat abnormal cells; the more dark patches it has the higher will be its immunity enhancement quality so the riper the banana the better the anti-cancer quality.

If former First Lady Imelda Marcos is an adjective, as in “Imeldific,” then Dr. Vicki Belo is a verb, as in “Belofy.”
If you’ve been touched by Dr. Vicki (only she can touch your skin with amazing effect), then you are “Belofied.”
That’s also the same verb used in describing Dr. Vicki’s Mac App Store launched on June 19 but is already such a big hit. Easy does it (just like child’s play): You can edit your photo according to the way you want to by simply pushing the right buttons. In short, you can make yourself look slimmer if you’re fat or trim your nose a bit if it’s flat. Tilt your iPhone or iPad and, presto, you see a new you!
Among the stars who have “Belofied” themselves were Kris Aquino and Coco Martin.
To download the Belofied app, type the word “Belofied” on the search bar in the Mac App Store. The App is compatible with iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPod (fourth generation), iPad 2 wi-fi, iPad wi-fi+3G, iPad (third generation) and iPad wi-fi+4G. Requires iOs 5 or later.
