DZRH airs drama on peacekeeping efforts

The Philippine Star

Manila, Philippines -  The 2nd Infantry Jungle fighter Division of the Philippine Army has teamed up with Manila Broadcasting Company to showcase success stories of rebel returnees, while highlighting heroism among military forces, in efforts to achieve long-lasting peace.

Major Gen. Eduardo del Rosario of the Armed Forces of the Philippines recently signed a memorandum of agreement with MBC top brass led by its president Ruperto Nicdao Jr, chief finance officer Eduardo Cordova and lawyer Rudolph Jularbal, vice president and OIC of DZRH, MBC’s flagship station, which has positioned itself in Philippine entertainment as cradle of the radio drama.

Beginning July 7, DZRH will air Ito ang Katotohanan, a 30-minute soap opera within the Saturday evening program Abot-Kamay, anchored by veteran reporter Norberto “Bing” Formento, head of the defense press corps. Airing at 9:30 p.m., Formento’s program will also feature live interviews with the actual subjects of the radio documentaries.

The first two episodes will feature Jennilyn Pizzaro Espinosa (alias Ka KC) and Eleonor Orgena (alias Ka Lyka), two very young mothers from Quezon province, who were recruited into the New People’s Army but eventually returned to civilian life after having been caught with the so-called Morong 43.

The series of radio dramas will be under the supervision of multi-awarded veteran director Salvador Royales and will feature the elite corps of DZRH radio drama talents. Since its inception in 1939 with the classic Gulong ng Palad, which changed the landscape of popular Filipino entertainment, the DZRH radio drama has been a valuable tool for community development.
