Coral Rekindling Venus
MANILA, Philippines - Mallgoers will have the rare opportunity to experience a freefall through the ocean and see the amazing beauty of the marine environment as Coral Rekindling Venus is presented at the Nido Fortified Science Discovery Center (NFSDC) Digistar Planetarium, SM Mall of Asia this month.
A joint project with the Australian Embassy in Manila, Coral Rekindling Venus premiered last June 5 in time for the Transit of Venus launch and World Environment Day.
The premiere was held simultaneously in full dome theaters in cities around the world such as London, New York, Honolulu, Brussels, Berlin, Buenos Aires, Beijing, Taipei, Mumbai and New Delhi. The film will also have public screenings at the Digistar Planetarium within the month.
An advance screening was held recently for media partners and other guests with no less than Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Bill Tweddell. SM VP for marketing and communications Millie Dizon and Family Entertainment Center, Inc. executives led by SVP Manuel Atacador Jr., AVP for marketing Jed Arboleda and NFSDC senior operations manager Arturo Carballo Jr. welcomed him.
Coral Rekindling Venus is a 26-minute film featuring fluorescent coral reefs, bioluminescent sea creatures and rare marine life. It showcases an astounding community living in the oceans that is highly threatened by climate change, using dome cinema technology to deliver powerful messages about the importance of maritime conservation.
It is the main feature of a multiple-platform, global project that intends to inspire collective action towards reducing the threats to the world’s oceans. The film’s name takes inspiration from astronomer Edmund Halley’s plead in 1716 for global cooperation amongst warring nations in the observance of the transit of Venus to address the astronomical problems of that age.
In Coral Rekindling Venus, internationally-acclaimed Australian artist Lynette Wallworth collaborates with cinema’s best underwater specialists and scientists to capture an incredible undersea experience. It features the underwater cinematography of David Hannan, and the music of Max Richter and Fennesz Sakamoto.
The Digistar Planetarium shows are some of the many fun and educational events at the Nido Fortified Science Discovery Center. For details, log on to www.coralrekindlingvenus.com or call at 556-2153, 556-2193 and 556-2179.
