Richard Gutierrez: The Kapuso Primetime King returns
MANILA, Philippines - GMA 7’s Primetime King Richard Gutierrez returns on television essaying the role of a real-life drama hero in a soap opera that is guaranteed to define superiority in the history of Philippine teledrama.
Makapiling Kang Muli airing tonight will be the vehicle by which Richard will rightfully lay claim to the Primetime King throne. It will be remembered that in 2004, Richard played the title role of Mulawin and historically conquered primetime television, not just for himself but for the network as a whole.
Mulawin was followed by a series of outstanding primetime forays — Sugo, Captain Barbell, Lupin, Kamandag, Asero, Zorro, Full House and Captain Barbell: Ang Pagbabalik, among others — that cemented the network’s position in the television landscape.
Now, Richard is back — more mature as an actor and more intense in his portrayals.
Playing the role of the embattled Martin Caballero, a poor but hardworking hacienda worker, Richard delivers a gripping performance never-before-seen in his previous teleseryes. Director Ricky Davao promises a different Richard in the series. “His role tackles more drama in this soap and for sure, Richard’s followers will be surprised by his maturity as an actor.”
Richard stars opposite Carla Abellana, who plays the role of his first love and child friend Leilani. The young lovers will be separated by a conflict involving their families, putting their love to a test.
Richard’s other leading lady will be Sarah Lahbati, who plays the role of Graciela, the woman who will relieve Martin’s heartaches in the absence of Leilani. Mark Anthony Fernandez plays the role of Louie, the man who will rival Martin in the hearts of the two women he loves.
Also in the cast are Phillip Salvador, Robert Arevalo, Rio Locsin, Mark Gil, Gloria Romero, TJ Trinidad and John Lapus.
Ricky is confident that Makapiling Kang Muli can establish supremacy on primetime television as it boasts quality in terms of story and performance. “We’re very proud of our work in this project. This is not a typical soap opera. The twists and turns in the plot and the character presentation will be enough to glue televiewers till the end. Everyone gave his best. Hindi kami mapapahiya,” he said.
Richard is not just about to rest on his laurels. He looks at every opportunity to work as a way to better his craft. “I make sure that I enjoy every role that I portray and that I learn from every project assigned to me. I don’t mind the hectic schedule that I keep. I am thankful for all of these because I know that these are blessings that don’t come to just about anybody,” he said.
