What Café de Malate has to offer

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - From a single-level hangout in the late ’80s into a multi-level joint today, Café de Malate has become a favorite watering hole among celebrities, government officials and ordinary people longing to have fun and relaxation from a long day’s work.

The café, owned by restaurateur Bobby Velasco, has survived political turmoil in the country — still standing strong as a perfect meeting place between friends, “the high and the mighty,” and people from all walks of life.

Its cozy and home-like atmosphere makes drinking coffee, exchanging views, or singing at a bar an enjoyable experience.

Give the credit to Bobby who introduced various innovations to his café. He upgraded its sound lighting facilities, added his personal collections of music, and offered a sing-along bar to create a more alive and elegant ambiance for customers.

And what’s so special about Café de Malate to keep a loyal following? A lot of people say its crispy pata (Café de Malate serves one of the best, if not the best in town). Others swear the beautiful ladies and their efficient service make public officials, businessmen and media men patronize the place.

On Nov. 11, Café de Malate will mark its 29th anniversary, and this early, an array of activities has been prepared for the big event.

Tonight and every night, Café de Malate will present an extra-festive mood with its grand entertainment. Guests may enjoy free pica-pica and welcome drinks.

It will have nightly performances bringing good singers such as Alyssa Ashley (Monday), Cindy Cuartero (Tuesday), Clarisse Arenas (Wednesday), Jane Magistrada (Thursday) and Antonette Cuyugan (Friday). And if you’re lucky, you may even chance upon Bobby singing his favorite songs.

Café de Malate is located at 1888 M.H. Del Pilar St., Malate Manila. For details, call 404-0408 or 527-3295.
