Mowelfund to preserve old films

MANILA, Philippines - The archived, locally produced movies including many of the old classics will now have a better chance of prolonging their original quality after the largest desiccant manufacturing company in the Philippines recently donated a sizable quantity of its product to the Movie Welfare Foundation (Mowelfund) in simple turnover ceremonies at its San Juan City offices.

Mowelfund films custodian Ricky Olerana received the donation from Eduardo Blanco and his wife Lyanne, daughter of the owner of Philippine Desiccants, Inc. witnessed by the other Mowelfund officials and some movie stars led by Mowelfund president Boots Anson-Roa and director Boy Vinarao. Anson-Roa thanked the donor and expressed the hope that the foundation can again turn to them for future maintenance purposes.

Blanco said he and his wife are avid Filipino movie fans and the donation is in answer to a public appeal made earlier by Mowelfund for assistance in preserving the quality of old Filipino movies that are presently archived in its care.

“We hope our desiccant products will go a long way in preserving the movie reels, and best delay their condition from further deterioration,” Blanco said.

Desiccants are special compounds that absorb moisture and odor. Heavy users of these products are the semi-conductor and microchips manufacturing and pharmaceutical industries, camera/video equipment makers and shoemakers.
