MANILA, Philippines - Lawyer Pablo Gancayco, senior partner of the Gancayco, Balasbas & Associates Law Offices, has recently been elected president of the Intellectual Property Association of the Philippines (IPAP). He will head the Philippine group in at least three international IP organizations, namely the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA), the Association Internationale Pour La Protection de la Propriete Intelletualle (AIPPI) and the ASEAN Intellectual Property Association (AIPA). He and other newly-elected officers were inducted into office by director-general Ric Blancaflor.
IPAP is the lead organization responsible for handling, among others, the registration and conflict resolution of intellectual property rights locally. It is the only organization of lawyers engaged in the practice of Intellectual Property Law in the Philippines which covers, among others, trademarks and brand names, invention patents, and copyrights of musical compositions, movies, and other artistic and literary works.
