MANILA, Philippines - Before taking on one of the most famous roles in movie history in 2013’s Superman: Man of Steel, Henry Cavill has joined Hollywood action legend Bruce Willis in an action-thriller that also stars Sigourney Weaver. Titled The Cold Light of Day, it is Henry’s follow-up movie after playing the lead role of Theseus in Tarsem Singh’s 2011 mythological blockbuster Immortals.
Born on the island of Jersey in the Channel Islands, Henry was educated at St. Michael’s Preparatory School in Saint Saviour, Jersey before attending Stowe School in Buckinghamshire, England. He began acting in school plays and had his first film role in The Count of Monte Cristo (2002). From 2007 to 2010, Henry had a leading role in Showtime’s The Tudors as Charles Brandon, first duke of Suffolk. The series was well-received and won an Emmy award in 2008. Entertainment Weekly named Henry the Most Dashing Duke with extraordinary charm, depth and a killer bod. Since then, he was applauded on his road to success. Man of Steel director Zack Synder called him “the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.
In The Cold Light of Day, Henry plays the role of Will Shaw whose family was kidnapped while on vacation in Spain. In a race against time to rescue them, Will puts the pieces of their disappearance together, uncovering a government conspiracy related to his father (Willis), a briefcase and meeting a mysterious woman (Weaver). Armed with a gun, but no information, Will is alone in an unfamiliar city with agents from all sides hot on his tail. An unrelenting chase across the streets of Madrid intensifies and Will is forced to question everything he has known to stay alive but is there anyone left he can trust.
With spectacular scenes to thrill audiences at the edge of their seats, The Cold Light of Day opens May 9 in theaters nationwide.
