The real appeal of Talentadong Pinoy

Bot Glorioso - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - TV5’s Talentadong Pinoy will be having its third Ultimate Talentado when the show’s eight Hall of Famers compete for the title tomorrow, May 5 and on Sunday, May 6 at the Quezon Memorial Circle. It will be the grandest two-night finale, host Ryan Agoncillo reveals.

“It will be the biggest show in terms of prizes because aside from the P1M cash and a brand-new car, the grand winner will also compete in WCOPA (World Championship of the Performing Arts). If before, there was only a chance, now it’s definite that the winner will join in the competition. Even the venue, we didn’t go for the usual. What we will have is a big, well-ventilated tent at the Quezon Memorial Circle.”

But the grand presentation doesn’t mean Talentadong Pinoy will come to a close. Truth is, another season begins as it enters its fourth year of airing and that’s good news to every Pinoy who aims to show his talent on a bigger venue and, eventually, become a star. Take the case of past grand winners like Makata Tawanan whose life turned 180 degrees the moment he got a fair share of the spotlight as one of the segment anchors in Good Morning Club. Joseph the Artist won a special award in WCOPA so does Yoyo Tricker while Wanlu is busy performing in special occasions and other events.

Ryan says, “Do their careers bloom? Yes, actually we grow together because when the show started in Novaliches, it didn’t automatically gain a lot of attention. It took us eight months before the show got noticed. Ask anyone which TV5 show I’m in and who won in the show, no one can answer. Now, they’re (winners) household names kaya nakaka-proud talaga.”

He adds, “I don’t know if it was done already but I was told that Joseph teaches sand art at the CCP and got the chance to perform I just don’t know which production while Yoyo Tricker is into acting now so who knows one day he might be cast in a teen show.”

With the show’s same format of showcasing Pinoys’ various talents every episode, Talentado remains exciting and appealing to televiewers. Is it due to the extraordinary talent or its entertainment value that makes it popular?

“I think both  the extraordinary talent and entertainment value,” Ryan replies. “Case in point, the ordinary things like sand, hula hoop and the kundiman. They have been taken for granted but our talents elevate them to a different level like ‘yung hula hoop sabi larong pambata and pole dancing is only for women but our champion is a young man. We also have a 14-year-old Bulakeño singing kundiman so that’s fun and very exciting. Di naman ang sa kinukuha natin ay yung out of the ordinary nagiging extraordinary lang when they perform on stage. Their talents make the show entertaining.”

Tomorrow, Hall of Famers Ayegee, Melbelline, Dancing is Fun, Craig and Samantha, Astroboy, Sustantivo, Monica Regalario and Rhyzza Kalifas will show their talents one last time for the audience to determine who among them deserves the most number of votes. The winner will be proclaimed on Judgment Night the following day.

And if you see Ryan with eyes fixed on each performance, it’s not only because he’s dutifully doing his job as a host but also he’s eager to see if his choice is the best.

He says, “To make things spicier, I and the staff have this pustahan every year. Katuwaan lang to find out if we make good judgment. I won during the first year, last year hindi. Let’s see if I’ll win this time.”
