The biggest news stories in Patrol ng Pilipino
MANILA, Philippines - Reporters Jeff Canoy and Chiara Zambrano will re-examine the biggest and most significant news stories in the past 25 years through the perspective of journalists that covered them in a special report tonight on ABS-CBN’s Patrol ng Pilipino after Bandila.
For the first part of the documentary on the 25th anniversary of TV Patrol, Jeff and Chiara will interview broadcast journalists Ces Oreña-Drilon, Charie Villa and Gus Abelgas to draw out the lessons and skills they acquired after reporting stories aired in the country’s leading newscast and changed the course of the nation’s history.
Five years after the Manila Peninsula siege, Ces will come clean on her experience being trapped and handcuffed in the assault between the Magdalo and the Armed Forces and the police. Meanwhile, Charie will share what she learned from covering the 1991 Mt. Pinatubo eruption, during which she did not fail to check on the minorities and residents displaced by the tragedy to make sure they were fine.
Gus will also impart what he has gone through and survived through the years just to tell stories, including life-threatening experiences and court cases filed against him.
From the back stories, find out what it takes to be a good journalist — the guts and strength to cover tragedies, the instinct to report on complex events, the heart to empathize with distraught Filipinos, and the intellect to help the public make sense of what’s happening.
