Musical Lent at Casa San Miguel

-

MANILA, Philippines - Experience a different kind of Lenten observance with Casa San Miguel’s traditional evening musical offerings this Holy Week featuring its resident string ensemble, Pundaquit Virtuosi.

Relive the passion of the Lord Jesus Christ with the solemn rendition of Franz Joseph Haydn’s Seven Last Words on April 6, Good Friday. Written in the late 18th century, the compendium of seven sonatas is regarded as the most faithful musical interpretation of the Seven Last Words uttered by Jesus as He hung on the cross.

The joyful mood returns with a Resurrection Sunday concert with Johann Sebastian Bach’s well-loved Brandenburg Concertos on April 8.

The Pundaquit Virtuosi returns on April 21 for the second edition of Chambert Concert featuring alumni artists performing chamber pieces.

Performances will be at 6 p.m. at the Ramon L. Corpus Hall of Casa San Miguel in San Antonio, Zambales, regarded as one of the cultural centers in Central Luzon. Titled Yamang Dagat: Ugat ng Lahi, the Pundaquit Festival concert series is the country’s longest-running, community-based arts and culture event.

Also up for viewing is the Museum of Community Heritage, the Treasures of A Hidden Zambales Heritage, which showcases the Roslynn Magsaysay Collection of Chinese Tradeware from Zambales.

Admission is free to the Pundaquit Festival.
