MANILA, Philippines - Eugene Domingo and Shamaine Buencamino took home top acting honors in this year's Asian Film Awards.

Domingo won the People's Choice Best Actress trophy for her performance in Ang Babae sa Septic Tank (The Woman in the Septic Tank), which was decided through online voting. Meanwhile, Buencamino won Best Supporting Actress for her role in Niño.

Buencamino, in a text message to her manager Ricky Gallardo, said "God is great. Salamat. Salamat sa prayers. Everytime I pray I always end with 'not my will but yours my Lord.' This is such a big blessing from Him. I also share this award with the Cinemalaya Film Festival, that it may continue to come up with good films we can all be proud of."

"I am so proud of Shamaine and thankful for this recognition," Gallardo said. "This big win is truly a priceless reward for Shamaine's continuous hardwork, consistency and commitment as a first-rate Filipino artist."

Inaugurated in 2007, the Asian Film Awards (AFA) is an international pioneering programme that honors filmmakers with outstanding achievements in the field of Asian cinema. The AFA is the only platform in the world that brings together the best cinematic talents of Asia, drawing film fans and professionals from all across the globe.
