MANILA, Philippines - In just four months, two University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) students and a young girl were killed in the area, leaving many parents unnerved and the students, faculty members and residents feeling vulnerable.
Tonight on ABS-CBN’s Patrol ng Pilipino, news reporter and UPLB graduate Francis Faulve will revisit his alma mater and give updates on the cases of Given Grace Cebanico and Rochel Geronda, who were both raped and murdered, and agriculture student Ray Peñaranda, who was stabbed dead in a holdup near the campus’ main gate.
Because of the incidents, 50 policemen were relieved from their posts. Francis will report on the local government’s security master plan imposing stricter measures around UPLB such as curfew and alcohol ban and installation of lighting facilities and CCTV cameras.
The documentary will also revisit the 1993 case involving the rape-slay of Aileen Sarmenta and the murder of her boyfriend Allan Gomez, both UPLB students. Former Caluan Mayor Antonio Sanchez was singled out as the mastermind of the twin killings and was convicted to a life term.
Meanwhile, Dominic Almelor will explore the potentials of artificial coral reefs deployed underwater in Boracay, an initiative in the local government’s Code Blue Boracay project aimed at reviving the corals.
Patrol ng Pilipino airs Tuesdays after Bandila.
