MANILA, Philippines - It’s witching hour for Derek Ramsay and Erich Gonzales — and all of us.
Taking time out from the romance trail, Derek and Erich essay a drama-thriller in their first team-up, Star Cinema’s Corazon: Ang Unang Aswang, due in more than 100 theaters nationwide on March 14.
Written and directed by Richard Somes, Corazon qualifies as a post-Valentine love story because it’s about a loving couple whose love for each other survives the biggest trials confronting them.
Erich plays the title character Corazon whose otherwise peaceful life in a small town is shattered by a crime that brings back her tragic memory about World War II.
Derek plays Daniel, Corazon’s husband, whose obsession in life is to sire a child with Corazon. Having a baby is the only important thing Corazon wants in life, but she and Daniel have been unsuccessful in having one even if they’ve been married for five years.
The death of Corazon’s father prompt the townspeople to hurl insults at Corazon about her past, forcing her and Daniel to transfer to another town where they seek the help of a woman in their desire to have a baby. Wish granted. But the baby comes out stillborn. Corazon and Daniel’s world is shattered. But will love sustain them…help them survive the new trial?
“I want this kind of role for a change,” she said, joking, “I want to find out how it is to get pregnant.”
Still basking in the huge box-office success of his Star Cinema starrer No Other Woman that made him The Box-Office Actor of 2011, Derek echoed the same sentiment.
“A welcome breather,” is how he described Corazon, his first thriller assignment. “I want variety naman. In this movie, fans will see another side of me.”
