MANILA, Philippines - James Ingram made quite an impact as soon as he entered the Boracay Room of the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel, bellowing out a high-pitched note that could have easily been a signal that the fun was just about to begin.
Sure enough, Ingram didn't spend his time at the press conference sitting down. The Grammy winner jumped and jived inside--as well as outside--the room much to the delight of everyone present.
If Ingram was excited about being in the Philippines, it was evident as he said that coming back to the country was a dream come true.
"It's true," Ingram added after the crowd sang him the "Happy Birthday" song. "I'm serious. In the Philippines, you treat me a whole different way as though I've got a family (here)."
Ingram made famous the songs "Whatever We Imagine," duets with Patti Austin that include "Baby Come to Me" and "How Do You Keep the Music Playing?", and "Just Once", which he described as the most meaningful one for him as it practically started his sterling career in the music industry.
Ingram turned 62 yesterday and his concert tonight at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum in Cubao is expected to be an unforgettable one specially with the participation of his special guest, Tony Award winner and the Philippines very own Lea Salonga. They will then fly to Cebu tomorrow for a concert at the Waterfront Hotel.
