What makes Kylie a good daughter

MANILA, Philippines - Kylie Padilla says her character Bea Guevarra on GMA 7’s The Good Daughter closely resembles her real-life persona. “Fifty percent Kylie” is how she best describes her role. Kylie’s only contrast to Bea is that the latter possesses a strong-willed attitude which the former finds too tough to effectively show on screen.

“That’s why I’m wearing this ring (flashes the ring on her right hand’s pinky) to remind me that I’m Bea who’s brave enough to answer back and raise a point to her parents during arguments. Me, I cannot do that,” Kylie says, visibly reflecting how good a daughter she is.

Her dad Robin and mom Liezl Sicangco, Kylie says, never get tired of giving pieces of advice just to make sure she and her siblings are heading down the right path especially now that she is in showbiz. But since her mom is in Australia, it is Robin who keeps an eagle eye on her every move.

“My dad keeps on telling me not to have a boyfriend yet as it might be a hindrance to my career and that’s fine with me. Besides, I come here to work not to find a boyfriend.”

Kylie got the ring from a fan during a fans’ day. “I asked if I can have the ring because it looks nice then he gave it to me naman. So naisip ko gawing reminder that I’m Bea.”

At 19, Kylie exactly knows what her character is going through. That’s why, she looks forward to every taping day wherein the role requires her to display the aches and pains of a teenager whose family becomes a mess after a tragic incident. She, too, went past a difficult phase when her parents separated.

“We couldn’t cry for that but I’m not saying we’re not happy for them (her parents’ decision to separate). We’re happy for them but for us children, there’s sadness. There were times na di ko maintindihan. That’s why nagagalit ako pero di naman ako nag-wawala, nag-tatanong lang.”

Thus, she learns a lesson or two every time she reads the script saying, “Through the story, I get to understand the realities of life and I apply whatever I learn in real life.”

The Good Daughter is Kylie’s second major project after Blusang Itim successfully concluded with favorable ratings. Does Kylie think she has already proven her worth as an actress?

“In Blusang Itim, I haven’t really shown what I can do because there was still shyness in me. But I hope I can give my all here (The Good Daughter) and they will say, ‘Ah si Kylie magaling yan.’ That’s music to the ears.”
