MANILA, Philippines - Rico J. Puno brings his unique blend of soulful singing and humor to the Newport Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World Manila for a show titled The Best of Rico J. Puno, A Valentine Concert on Feb. 14.
Rico started his career in small folk joints around Manila and rose to become one of the country’s biggest stars. He skyrocketed to fame in 1974 with his own Namamasyal pa sa Luneta version of Barbra Streisand’s The Way We Were. What happened after that resulted in one of the most successful and enduring careers in local entertainment industry.
Named after the legendary Italian tenor Enrico Caruso and born on Valentine’s Day, Rico played a major part in the Manila Sound explosion of the ’70s era. He made a lot of hits like Kapalaran, Buhat, Damdamin, Sorry Pwede Ba, Together Forever, Lupa, May Bukas Pa, Macho Gwapito, Ang Tao’y Marupok, Ganyan Pala Ang Magmahal and others. He became a star in films Bawal Na Pag-Ibig and Silang Mga Mukhang Pera; of television, The Rico J. Puno Show and has since then been a top concert draw here and abroad.
The Best of Rico J. Puno, A Valentine Concert is presented by Viva Concerts and Events with ABS-CBN, The Philippine STAR, Manila Bulletin, Business World, People’s Journal, 96.3 Easy Rock, 97 dot 9 Home Radio, RJ100, 94.7 Mellow, 90.7 Love radio and 105.1 Crossover. Rico will perform his biggest hits and current favorites. He will also duet with guests Katya Santos and Verni Varga.
