Celebs run for cervical cancer prevention

MANILA, Philippines - Celebrities recently joined the fight against cervical cancer by taking part in the Millennium Run for Women’s Health hosted by the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS).

Held in partnership with leading global research-based pharmaceutical company GlaxosmithKline (GSK), the event was participated in by celebrity advocates of women’s health including Abby de Leon with husband photographer Jun de Leon and son Ijah; Sharmaine Suarez and Mymy Davao. Incidentally, Abby, Sharmaine and Mymy are also involved in the Bravehearts Foundation. Chaired by Abby, the Bravehearts Foundation advocates the promotion of women’s health through education and vaccination.

Despite the nippy weather exacerbated by intermittent rain, health enthusiasts and women’s health advocates converged at Mckinley Hill in Taguig City to take part in the 10K, 5K, 3K and 1.5K categories.

“The Millennium Run for Women’s Health is one of the many ways by which POGS helps increase awareness of women’s health issues through advocacy programs and education. We are very pleased to have GSK as our partner in this undertaking as we safeguard the health of every Filipina,” says POGS president Dr. Rey de los Reyes.
