Rhian: Is this what I have to pay for loving him?

Ricky Lo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Barely a week after KC Concepcion unraveled, drenching national television with earth-shaking revelations why she and boyfriend Piolo Pascual broke up, hinting at but not confirming speculations about his sexuality, Rhian Ramos tearfully talked about how she felt about her ex-boyfriend Mo Twister’s accusation that she had an abortion in Singapore in July last year.

Rhian told Chika Minute segment host Pia Guanio on GMA’s 24 Oras the other night that she learned about Mo’s controversial video diary from friends who tweeted her.

“I was very shocked and very hurt, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” Rhian said, sniffing. “I could not believe that he would say all those things about me and make (that kind of) video about me.”

Neither confirming nor denying the accusation but admitting that she was “blind” when she, at 16, fell for Mo. Rhian said she was flattered that Mo would repeatedly announce on his radio show that she was his crush, ignoring the warning of her family and well-meaning friends against going into a relationship with Mo and it wasn’t only because of the age difference (she’s now 21 and he, 34) between them but also of Mo’s “reputation.”

“Hindi ako nakinig, eh,” confessed Rhian, her pretty face washed in tears as she paused, trying to find the right words. “I just really liked him; I guess I was being blind. Ahhh, I don’t know…uhm, you learn your lesson after naman, eh.”

When they became “boyfriend-girlfriend,” recalled Rhian, Mo’s personality changed.

“I came to know him in a completely different way,” she said, sobbing. “He became like a very different person,” adding that she tried several times to break up with him because she felt that their relationship was becoming “unhealthy” and he was treating her badly. “Every time I tried to split from him, he would get really mad or threaten me. I think the most painful time was when he outright told me, ‘I promise to take everything you love away from you.” She took a deep breath and asked, “’Yun ba ‘yung love? Tatakutin ka, itri-threaten ka? Sisirain ka? Para ano, para sa kanya ka lang?”

Asked by Pia what made her stick to Mo, Rhian conceded, “I loved him very much; I thought I was doing the right thing. I guess I was blind. I didn’t know naman any better. I was so young when I met him and I just fell in love. I just wanted to stick by him.”

In the next breath, Rhian said, “I should have listened to my family. Now I realize that your family knows what’s best for you... that they love you unconditionally.”

Mo (real name: Mohan Gumatay) left reportedly for the States a few days ago after he sold all his belongings including his laptop containing the damning video diary which, he claimed, was uploaded in the Internet by somebody else and not by him. Although he said that he was moving to New York, there are reports that he’s actually coming back before Christmas.

On his Twitter, he continues to post damaging items, such as his reaction to an angry fan who called him a loser: “You can call me a loser, I agree with you. There has been no denial. I was in that room when one second your child has a heartbeat and the next second, it is sucked out by tools and a vacuum…”

Rhian and GMA have separately filed cases against Mo. She has petitioned a Muntinlupa court for Permanent Protection Order (PPO). “The basis for this is to stop (Mo’s) bickering over social networking sites which is causing emotional and psychological violence (to Ramos),” Rhian’s lawyer Lorna Kapunan told The STAR.

Thanking GMA for standing by her, Rhian said that she needed “to rest a little bit; I just need sometime to spend with my family,” meaning she’s going on indefinite leave from showbiz.
