Songs for KC
KC, I’m KC for feeling so lonely
KC, I’m KC for feeling so blue.
I knew you’d love me as long as you wanted.
And then someday
You’d leave me for somebody new.
That first half of the Patsy Cline hit song titled…well, I guess you know what…speaks eloquently about presumably KC Concepcion’s current state of heart, with one word in the lyrics replaced with two initials, after that tear-drenched spectacle on national television chronicling the events that led to her parting with boyfriend Piolo Pascual.
But KC insisted that there was no “third party” involved. Was there “somebody new” (or “somebody old”)? KC didn’t say. All she said was that, she tried hard to understand Piolo even if there were times (so many of them!) that she didn’t understand him, but “tinanggap ko kasi sinasabi sa akin ng mga kaibigan namin na personality niya ‘yun.”
So what was the “personality” that KC was hinting at? Was it the same “personality” that her then manager Shirley Kuan “warned” her against but KC didn’t believe, and that precipitated a misunderstanding that led to their parting? Could Shirley in private be now saying, “I told you so?”

You say it best when you say nothing at all — from When You Say Nothing At All by Ronan Keating of Boyzone
In her “tell-all” interview with Boy Abunda on The Buzz, KC said so many things, skirting the issue, only hinting at “something,” and what she didn’t say actually said it all. Read between the lines: “…masakit man sabihin, siguro nag-fail din ako dahil hindi ako ‘yung kailangan niya sa buhay niya. Or hindi ako ‘yung hinahanap niya sa buhay niya. And hindi, hindi ko mabigay sa kanya ‘yung kailangan niya.”
There. She said quite a mouthful without saying anything, saying it best by saying nothing at all.
She tried to unlock the mystery without unlocking it at all. She opened a Pandora’s Box without opening it at all. She revealed everything, maybe unwittingly, by, again, saying nothing at all.

We did what we had to do; won’t forget, can’t regret what I did for love! — What I Did For Love by various singers
Hurt and angry, KC tearfully admitted that it was also her fault because “sobra akong nagtiwala” and that “kasalanan ko rin sa sarili ko kasi pinaglaban ko pa, eh.” Was it a case of you-and-me-against-the-well-meaning pieces of advice from friends?
Would KC, if she could, turn back the hands of time and take the other route? Just how did it all begin?
Here’s the Funfare scoop on May 2, 2003, titled And now, is it Piolo and KC?:
Of course, today’s headline is purely speculative, although it’s not far-fetched for Piolo Pascual and KC Concepcion to fall in love with each other, never mind the slight age-gap between them. After all, Piolo is fancy-free (even if he’s an unwed father) and so is KC who turned 18 only last April 7.
It was at that memorable event at The NBC Tent where Piolo was observed to have been “mesmerized” by the radiant KC in her Joe Salazar gown. Now, did the “fascination” start that night?
Funfare DPAs have been saying that Piolo and KC are “textmates,” although we can only surmise what messages they are swapping. If the messages are too private for any outsider to read, they can always “erase” them after reading, since “saving” them can prove to be “incriminating” later on.
Thus, when our group bumped into Piolo and KC together at Greenbelt 3 the other night, we started putting two and two together and making “hasty” conclusions — are they or aren’t they? Sure, the two were with companions (among them JM Rodriguez and talent manager Joji Dingcong) but you know how celebrities sometimes try to hide a budding(?) romance by first going out in groups. Piolo and KC were on their way to, according to Piolo, “a bar” while our group was on the way out after a dinner at Sentro hosted by Nellie Yu, the dermatologist who, as I’ve been saying, is so beautiful, with skin so flawless (to borrow Rosanna Roces’ favorite adjective), that she’s the best “walking advertisement” for her clinic (one in Makati and another one in Binondo).
But then again, maybe Piolo and KC had nothing to hide at all because wouldn’t they have chosen a private place if they were? Greenbelt 3 is as public as public can be, you know. I’m sure that, if and when, KC’s mom Sharon Cuneta would have no objection to having Piolo as her daughter’s boyfriend because Sharon herself has been vocal about her admiration for Piolo.
Piolo is a prize catch and so is KC who was once romantically linked to Billy Crawford, the Pinoy pop star making great waves in Europe (and now, the USA) and a never-publicized handsome Korean guy.
If ever, imagine what beautiful children Piolo and KC would be producing. Imagine!

Dry your eyes, Rosemary Blue. Take a look around there’s a world outside that waits for you. Live your life, Rosemary Blue. Put your lonely tears away, wait and see there will come a day…— from Rosemary Blue by Neil Sedaka
Many people, this one included, are wondering how a girl so bright (educated in Paris, no less!) and so beautiful (and how!) could be so blinded in love that seemed to have been…unrequited? Asked what painful lesson did the experience knock into her senses, KC said, “Magtira ka para sa sarili mo, at ang tiwalang ibibigay mo sa taong mamahalin mo, dapat alagaan ng taong mahal mo.”
Piolo is definitely a good person gifted not just with great talent but with gorgeous looks that, according to KC would melt her heart every time he asked for “forgiveness” and “another chance” when he felt that he was hurting her. But Piolo seemed to have a different agenda in life and KC deserves what she described as a guy who would truly love her.

I will end today’s piece with the second half of Patsy Cline’s hit song titled... well, you know what... still with two initials replacing one word in the lyrics:
Worry, why do I let myself worry?
Won’drin’ what in the world did I do.
Oh! KC, for thinking that my love could hold you.
I’m KC for tryin’, and KC for cryin’
And I’m KC for lovin’ you!
(Postscript: Piolo Pascual’s only reaction to KC Concepcion’s emotional outburst was to request the public to now leave them alone, after KC said it best by, as I’ve been pointing out, saying nothing at all. KC’s mom Sharon Cuneta thankfully steered clear of the issue by not making further comment after herself saying quite a mouthful when news first broke that KC and Piolo were having problems. Asked for comment, Gabby said, “I’ve warned KC before about what could happen if she fell in love too hard because I didn’t want her to get hurt. I was talking in general, without referring to anybody; the man could be anybody. [Piolo] is her first boyfriend from showbiz. What pissed me of is the way KC is hurting now. As a father, I feel for her and I’m hurt, too.”)
