From Saigon to under the sea

Jinky Llamanzares takes on the villainous role of Ursula in Atlantis Productions’ staging of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, which runs from Nov. 18 to Dec. 11 at the Meralco Theatre.  Jinky thrilled audiences internationally as Gigi in the Toronto premiere of Miss Saigon and as the Acid Queen in The Who’s Tommy, making her the first Asian to perform that role in the Pete Townsend Musical. Locally, she has performed in Atlantis musicals such as Urinetown and Legally Blonde.  She was also a part of Hong Kong Disneyland’s Opening Team where she performed in The Golden Mickeys.  Playing the infamous sea witch is a dream for Jinky as she gets to sing the show-stopping Poor Unfortunate Souls. Directed by Bobby Garcia and Chari Arespacochaga, Disney’s The Little Mermaid also stars Rachelle Ann Go in the title role.

1. If you were to change one part of your body what would it be? 

My nose.

2. What other talent would you like to have aside from music and why?

Cooking because I never learned how to.

3. How do you want to be remembered?

As a multi-faceted performer.

4. What do you think of organized religion?

To each his own.

Narra tree because it’s tough!

6. What is your philosophy in life?

I can do anything as long as I put my heart into it!

7. The movie that made you cry?

Phenomenon.

8. If you have wings, where would you go?

Paris!

9. What makes you angry?

People who are perennially late!

10. What do you like most about your work? What don’t you like about it?

What I like about my work is that it allows me to share my gift; and there’s nothing I don’t like about it! 

11. What supernatural gift would you like to have?

I wish I had the ability to travel to places in seconds. 

12. Historical figures living or dead that you despise?

Hitler.

13. What do you value most in friends? 

Frankness.

14. Who is your favorite singer?

Whitney Houston.

15. The best place on earth? Why?

Home. It’s my comfort zone.

16. What is your greatest fear? 

A loved one passing on brutally.

17. If you can compete one-on-one with any single athlete, who would it be?

Manny Pacquiao.  

18. If you were to confess only one sin to God, what would it be?

It’s between me and my God. 

19. Why do roses have thorns?

I don’t know.

20. How would you describe your state of mind?

Peaceful.

21. What color describes your life? Why?

Green. It could mean a lot of things!

You Gotta Be by Desree. Because of my philosophy in life.

Any rap song.

24. Would you rather be feared or loved?

Of course LOVED!!!
