Jose Mari Chan raises funds for Inyong Alagad
MANILA, Philippines - Jose Mari Chan (photo) will be going to Bohol to raise funds for the indigent patients who would seek assistance from DYRD’s top-rated program Inyong Alagad and Tagbilaran-By-Nite.
Chan will render his immortal love songs which every Filipino music lover would like to sing and hum along with songs like Beautiful Girl, Please Be Careful with my Heart, Can We Just Stop and Talk Awhile, Deep In My Heart, Constant Change and Afterglow, which was his first recorded hit song in 1967.
Chan who remains one of the country’s well-renowned composers has written no less than 50 songs excluding commercial jingles.
In 1989, he released his album Constant Change. It was named Album of the Year by Awit Awards. The album also reached Diamond Record status based on sales record and enjoyed high patronage in countries like Malaysia and Indonesia.
Christmas In Our Hearts was released and reached its triple platinum status in 1990. He became the first and the only recording artist who achieved Double Diamond Record Award for The Christmas In Our Hearts. Even until today, his album still sells during Christmas season.
In 2005, Chan composed the theme song of the 2005 Southeast Asian Games, We’re All Just One.
On his 40th year, Chan gathered 21 of his favorite songs in one album titled Love Letters and Other Souvenirs carrying its single How Do You Fall In Love. The album featured singers like Jojo Chan, Aiza Seguerra, Agot Isidro, Rachelle Gerodias, Samantha Chavez, Suzy Unas and Laine Laudico. Of course, the main attraction of the album were Chan’s solo numbers.
His voice of unique luster seems to transform this old world into a younger, romantic one.
He is considered as the “Filipino Jimmy Webb” because of his lyrics which are totally different from others. His songs have been continually played over different radio stations and thus, strengthening his popularity among his admirers.
He is best known for his Beautiful Girl and became one of the most-respected and most-enduring singer-songwriters of the country. He is the only singer/composer/producer that has been bestowed lifetime achievement awards by The Philippine Association of the Record Industry’s Awit Awards, the composers’ group called the Katha Awards and Aliw Awards.
The Chan concert at Panglao Island Nature Resort on Oct. 28 is expected to be a hit considering the thousands of music lovers captivated by the “Jose Mari” music magic.
Donations for Inyong Alagad (P500 and P1,000) will be accepted starting next week during the radio program while donors will be given concert tickets.
The concert-for-a-cause is supported by Philippine Airlines, Panglao Island Nature Resort and Disco Record Center for the benefit of the indigent patients in Bohol as part of the Golden Anniversary celebration of station DYRD.
