PMPC Music Awards honors 15 Pinoy icons
MANILA, Philippines - Fifteen Filipino icons will be honored at the third PMPC Music Awards on Oct. 16 at the Irwin LeeTheater, Ateneo de Manila University.
They are Pilita Corrales, Freddie Aguilar, Jose Mari Chan, Basil Valdez, Celeste Legaspi, Jim Paredes, Danny Javier and Boboy Garovillo (APO Hiking Society), Pepe Smith, Mabuhay Singers, Victor Wood, Ryan Cayabyab, Sylvia La Torre and Mike Hanapol. The Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to Nora Aunor.
“There’s a lot of talented Filipino artists whom we can call icons. So we decided to honor first the artists who have been in the industry for four decades and whose contribution to the music industry still reverberates until now,” explains Pelita Peralta-Uy of Beginnings at 21 Plus Inc., producer of PMPC Music Awards.
Honoring these singers, composers and musicians is in line with Uy’s dream of bringing back the Original Pilipino Music (OPM) to its glory days.
True to its vision and mission of supporting the promotion and proliferation of OPM, Uy is giving the Star Awards for Music a multi-million peso makeover.
“I just don’t want presenters reading the nominees and just awarding the winners. I want a theme and I want to present it as prestigious as possible,” she shares.
Uy adds that more than uplifting the image of the upcoming PMPC Star Awards for Music, she is also safeguarding the image of the company. Beginnings at 21 Plus, Inc. is known for staging successful events and OPM concerts.
