MANILA, Philippines - The Movie and Television Classification Board (MTRCB) has commended ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. for being the first television network to implement and broadcast the prescribed, newly-approved pictogram and full-screen written and verbal program advisories .
MTRCB chairperson Mary Grace Po Llamanzares in a message posted on the MTRCB website said ABS-CBN is the first TV to comply with the revised classification ratings for television programs which was implemented last week.
The revised classification ratings for television programs is embodied in Memorandum Circular No. 05-2011.
The revised classification ratings for television program will be as follows: General Patronage (“G”), Parental Guidance (“PG”), Strong Parental Guidance (“SPG”) and Disapproved for airing on Television (“X”) .
Under the new guidelines, standard pictogram advisory will be superimposed on screen all through the airing of the program.
The pictogram advisory is color coded: Green for general patronage, blue for parental guidance and red for strong parental guidance.
The new ratings was approved by the MTRCB Board last Aug. 25 after a series of public consultations and information campaigns with the different stakeholders in the television industry.
The MTRCB new guidelines provide that there will be a simultaneous broadcast of the prescribed 3D Animation/Motion Graphics of the program advisories of “G” and “PG.”
Po Llamanzares said the program advisories are designed to empower parents to exercise caution and vigilance with the viewing habits of their children. It is unfortunate, however, the program advisories have been in place for a long time but the public seems oblivious of their true importance and relevance.
